So what exactly is happiness? Well, happiness is that beautiful feeling
we all get deep inside, that grand feeling that fills our entire being with joy
and laughter. Happiness is also a natural state of being. It’s also the way that
we should all feel as often as we possibly can. It’s also a very healthy way of
feeling. It’s a state that we all constantly strive to be in and feel.
So how can we feel this great emotion we call happiness on a more regular
basis? Well, the first thing that we all need to understand is that true
happiness starts on the inside of each one of us. That’s right; it’s a feeling
deep inside which is accessible to us all. But only if we know how to access it,
and allow it to shine. For some of us it’s just easier to go around feeling
unhappy, concentrating on what we want or what we don’t have, rather than
concentrating on what we might already own, or already have.
The old saying comes into practice: Is the glass half full, or is the
glass half empty?
We see, its human nature to always want more than what we already have.
And in some regards that’s fine, as long as we’re already in that happy space
within. And for some people, it doesn’t matter what they have, for they will
always be unhappy. You see you can open up any magazine like TV week, or woman’s
weekly to know exactly what I’m talking about.
The amount of actors and movie stars that you read about has always
intrigued me. Many of them have everything that they could ever wish for. They
have million dollar houses, they have millions in their bank accounts, they have
dozens of the finest motor vehicles that money can buy, and many of them have
the perfect partners, with great children also.
But yet, many of them are still very unhappy in their lives. How can this
be possible? Having everything, and still being unhappy? Well, very simply
they still haven’t found that happiness within them selves. You see, money
can buy many, many things in this world. But there is one thing that it can’t buy,
and that is happiness.
Sure, if you give money to a person who has already found that happiness
within themselves, then used in the right way, that money will amplify their
goodness and in return create more happiness for them, but again, only if that
person has first found that happiness within them selves.
Now we all go through difficulties and problems in our lives. There is
not one person alive in this world that doesn’t. So what should we do when these
difficult times strike us? Well, I think that we should deal with them as quickly as
we possibly can and knowing that adding more grief and sadness to the given
situation will only make things worse in the long run.
The sooner we can put a smile back on our faces and go back to being
happy again, then the better off we’ll be. We see, there’s no point in dwelling
on our misfortunes any longer then we need to. It does us absolutely no good at
all. So what we all need to do is concentrate on our good fortunes and our good
deeds, and return to our happy state.
I remember once seeing a documentary on TV about a small village of
people who lived in bark huts and ate nothing but leaves and legumes all day
long. They kept them selves busy by weaving baskets day after day. And you
know, to my amazement these were some of the happiest people that I’d ever seen.
They were constantly laughing and smiling. It was so good to see. One of the
reasons that these people were so happy was because their lives were so simple.
They had plenty of time to find that happiness within.
We see, here in our western society, we have made our lives very complex,
very confusing and very integrated. So it’s no wonder that we find it hard to
find that happiness.
If we can all understand the importance of being happy, not only for
ourselves, but also for our families and friends, then we are half way there.
And if we see that there is absolutely no benefit in being unhappy, then we come
So just in finishing this passage, lets all start by looking deep within
ourselves for our own internal happiness so that we can all learn to put real
smiles on our faces.
